Children's Programs

Karate-do
Ages 4-7 | 8-12

Karate-do (empty hand way) is a generic word that encompasses many styles. Though various styles will be touched upon, the primary style here is Goju Ryu (hard soft style). This style of karate employs various forms called kata, blocks, grabs, holds, strikes, and takedowns that are taught at an age appropriate time or level of belt. Belts are called kyu; they start at 6th (white) and ascend towards 1st (brown). Children are not awarded black belt until they have reached age of majority, usually 18 years, and have passed a world-class Classical Martial Arts Canada grading.

Our children's programs are geared to not only teach your child awareness, self-control, confidence, and street proofing, but also a strong foundation in fundamentals that will apply throughout their life. Classically, martial arts was not taught for entertainment or winning a tournament. It is in this classical tradition that your child will be taught.

Youth Programs

Karate-do
Ages 13-17

Karate-do (empty hand way) is a generic word that encompasses many styles. Though various styles will be touched upon, the primary style here is Goju Ryu (hard soft style). This style of karate employs various forms called kata, blocks, grabs, holds, strikes, and takedowns. Students start at the beginner level class (white to red belt). The beginner's class establishes good fundamentals necessary to progress on to the intermediate level. At this level, students further refine their training through more complicated forms, techniques, and physical application. At 17-18 years, youth students will continue their training in the adult class respectively. A grade of black belt is awarded to those who are 18 years old minimum and pass a world-class Classical Martial Arts Canada grading.

Our youth programs are geared to the specific nature of teenagers and their development. Lessons are taught in a manner through which their age group has a foundation to make good choices. Due to the strong peer influence at this age, specific instruction is targeted towards this influence and other obstacles teenagers face.

Students start with the staff(bo) move on to learn the Tonfa, Sai, Eku and Jo. Fundamentals will be focused on; to establish a good foundation to progress confidently toward higher levels of instruction. The primary style here is Goju Kobudo. Enrollment in Kartate is recommended.

Niei Chi - Tai Chi Chuan, Qi Gong, Ba Gua

Internal energy arts. Instruction is on smooth, flowing movements that are timed with a student's breathing. Concepts of self-healing, stress management, relaxation, and self-awareness are focused on. Self-defense is an exponent of this instruction. Due to the slower pace of this program, progress will require patience and consistency, though the rewards are powerful. We recommend a minimum 6-month membership to start. Karate is an excellent complement here. Students can start anytime.
